Treatments for children (ages 6 to 10)

The first recommended orthodontic consultation is between the ages of 7 and 8!

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) and the Canadian Association of Orthodontists (CAO) recommend an initial consultation between the ages of 7 and 8 to ensure that new adult teeth are properly positioned and the occlusion (teeth placement with closed mouth) is adequate. Most orthodontic treatments are more effective once all adult teeth are present, but specific identifiable conditions should be treated at a young age to avoid gradual degradation.

Approximately 15-25% of patients seen between the ages of 6 and 10 will begin an early treatment phase to promote proper evolution of the teeth. This phase is normally very short and involves a minimum of orthodontic appliances.
